Leaving work Friday afternoon, the weather had finally warmed up....well kind of....warmer than what it has been the last month or so anyway. There was a lovely haze that was just visible so it felt like a good day to see if the Palisades in Savanna, IL was open...and by open I mean the roads were cleared to be able to drive to the top. Luckily a single road to the top was cleared! So up I went :)
Looking out over the Mississippi River, out into the distance, you can just see the haze. And being a couple hours from sunset, the light was sharp and gave a great golden glow.
Did I mention that it only had "kind of" warmed up? Definitely not enough to melt the ice over the river. Which was just fine with me, the glow of the sun off the ice was just incredible.
South of my look out spot was the new bridge connecting Savanna, IL and Sabula, IA.
I switched out my lens to be able to zoom into the rock formations, and you will see what I zoomed in on two images up to the left of the bridge.
Another zoom in on a rock formation which was slightly closer to me than the previous.
I zoomed in to the north of me to really see that great haze that drew me to get out and take some images.
Zoomed into an area on the ice with texture and the light bounced of beautifully.
Closed in on the bridge, and was surprised that I was able to see the train bridge behind it.
There was some interesting carvings on the lookout point, this one caught my eye because this person definitely has more talent carving than me lol
I leaned down and shot between the lookout point's wooden planks to get a great frame of the sun bouncing of the ice.
And sometimes I see other small details that catch my eye in such a way that I can't pass up capturing it.
Now, I live about a half hour away from Savanna, and on my way home I decided I need to stop at a grocery store in Clinton, IA. Leaving from there I realized the sky's color was still amazing with the sun getting closer to setting, so I found another spot on the IL side of the river in Fulton.
The sun hit the bridge just right for a brief moment to get a golden glow.
The clouds around the sun formed in such a way that it looked like a glowing ring around the sun.
And for a final image, looking down the walk path on the side of the river as the lights came on in preparation for the sun setting.
Something else that came out of my time in Clinton was I noticed a family of beavers, however I'm not including them in this Project. So please go check that project/ album out as well :)
